If you’re a busy mom like me, you can always use extra cash each month. I’ve rounded up 8 ways for you to help contribute more to your household that don’t take up much time, and many can be done at home while the kids nap!
I may receive a commission if you purchase or sign up for something mentioned in my post. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting MBAMomLife.
1. Research and Focus Groups
Do some searches for Focus Groups that serve your local area. One that I use is FocusGroup. You complete some quick surveys to determine if you are right to come in for an hour or so and get compensated for $75-200+. Another one I’ve worked with personally for you to try – Respondent. And also check out Ascendancy.
There’s also an app Dscout that allows you to upload short videos to qualify for studies.
Also be sure to search for local focus groups and mystery shops that cover only a metro area. There are many that I am using that are in the Minneapolis area.

While there are several other sites that pay you in points that you can redeem for gift cards, I wanted to highlight those that pay straight cash.
2. Secret Shopper
Go undercover at local restaurants and stores then get reimbursed. You can snag a free meal with a guest! I’ve also seen daycare center tours, free body waxing, and other shops that take a small amount of time and the $$ or freebies add up quickly. I’ve worked with Bestmark. Also check out Trendsource and Fieldwork.
3. Product Reviews
Get sent free products to try like beauty, food, and household items. Check out bzzagent.
4. Consign Clothes and Baby Items
Twice a year a consign (& shop) a local popup baby & kid items sale. It’s super easy to sell kid clothes, toys, gear of all kinds that isn’t always easy to sell online. And I pick up loads of deals on the same for the next age I need for my kids. I can’t tell you the $$ I’ve made and saved!

5. Put Your Talent on the Market
Are you creative or have many talents? Maybe just one? Put it up for sale on Fiverr or Upwork! On Fiverr, I’ve already made $50 this month of trying it out- offering my genealogy research services. It was super easy to list my rates, and I just sit back and wait for orders. If you can design someone a logo, pitch it online!
6. Fight Back against Robocallers
Yup. This one is pretty amazing. Did you know it’s against the law for robocallers to call you unsolicited? The next time you get one, try to get connected to a real person who will tell you the name of their company. You can advise them that they’ve violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and demand they settle with you, or else they can face a $500 to $1500 fine. Robokiller. tells you just how to do (& this was on my local news and they got paid!)
7. Start a Blog
There are endless ways to monetize a carefully crafted blog. Are you brand new? Get set up with your self-hosted site on Siteground and register your domain for less than $5/month for year!
8. Freelance Writing
Love to write? Pitch to your local publications, mom blogs that welcome contributors, or write content for businesses. For example, Minnesota Parent Magazine, TwinCitiesMomBlog [Insert your local City Mom Blog], and Problogger.
