To MBA or not to MBA… forever a question for me for 10 years.
Yes, you could run the cost-benefit analysis but ultimately who you are at the end of an MBA is priceless.
I did many pro vs. con lists – but each one carries a different weight.
Here are the 5 Top Reasons
Why You Should Get An MBA
It’s almost a given that you will get a salary boost from your current or future employer, based both on the degree and the experience gained. Some jobs simply won’t allow you to the next level!
The friends you make in school are invaluable. I have already gained some friends for life. We have learned about what they do, who they work for, and are very supportive of each other. Also the professors at my school are employed in private business so they offer a lot of options, too. The business schools also offer many scheduled networking opportunities.
3. Career Change / Climb to Management
If you simply are ready to change direction and lack the business knowledge, it’s the definitive place to go. Or, if you’re aiming for a high career trajectory in leadership, it’s key! While you don’t have to go for the C-Suite, your will have nothing to hold you back.
4. Tuition Reimbursement
Down to the cost: If your employer offers to pay for part or all of your degree, you have little to lose and much to win! Time, but for a very short time in the grand scheme of your career.
5. Latest Skills
Haven’t been in education in awhile? They’re teaching all the new skills that only new grads will have- be on the cutting edge over those who got theirs years ago!
Case In Point
I can already say in my first semester I am reaping the benefits of every one of these points.
I’ve already gained visibility from senior leadership that I am serious and deliberate on planning my career path, and they have rewarded me. Pursuing my MBA means I am the future of the organization, and they are bringing me to the inner circle to prepare me.
Is this enough to convince you what you can achieve? This is just the short list.
